Desmond Llewelyn is referred to as "Q" for the first time as 007 (Sean Connery) visits Q-Branch for his equipment briefing in the third James Bond feature Goldfinger, 1964.

Bond's car was supplied by MI6's Quartermaster, known as 'Q', and while Desmond Llewelyn first played the character - real name Major Boothroyd - in From Russia with Love, Goldfinger was the first time his comedic talents were exploited to their fullest.
