Born in 1934 in Brooklyn, Young was the first-generation American daughter of Estonian immigrants Vilma (Janow) and George Steinman. Raised in Columbia, Connecticut, she graduated in 1958 from Pratt Institute’s prestigious School of Art and Design in Brooklyn, where she majored in illustration and developed her talents in painting and sculpting.

George Steinmann was born in 1950 in Bern. He made graphic design, painting, music and African-American history in Basel and San Francisco. His work focused on the relationship between art, science and policy, questions the role of the artist in the context of major international policy conferences. Invited by the curator collective ARTPORT_making waves (New York - Paris) in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland,George Steinmann will explore this issue on the occasion of COP21, where it will act as the first artistic observer. More generally, the aim is to expand the scientific and political debate on climate change from an aesthetic perception and an artistic point of view.
