After the competition, Medovnikov was invited by the judge from Kazakhstan to perform at an annual festival in that country, although she will not be able to attend. Since her return, she has already participated in the online Hal Leonard Vocal Competition, where she took second place.
Current obsession: I’m close to completing my (jazz) guitar method book for Hal Leonard and because it’ll probably be the only one I ever write, it’s indeed become an obsession. I've placed my own playing under a microscope and subsequently discovered a lot of new ideas pertaining to the nuances of guitar playing. I’m left wondering how I might have sounded today if I had this material presented to me 20 years ago.
Rachel graduated from the San Dieguito Academy last June and is on her way to a gap year study and community service program in Israel. Rachel has earned several music and academic awards including The Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation Scholarship, The Eric Langdon and Diana Monzeglio Memorial Scholarship for the Arts, the Roy Risner Scholarship, Chapman University Presidential Scholarship, LeTip of Carlsbad Scholarship, the Optimist International Essay Contest National Scholarship, and semi-finalist for the Kyoto Prize and the Hal Leonard Vocal competition.
It is truly an international society with official affiliates in Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Finland, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, Norway and the southern part of Africa. The Society has the largest archive of sheet music in the United States. It is currently conducting clinics and vocal presentations at the American Choral Directors Association conventions. Recently the Hal Leonard Music Company became a publisher of barbershop arrangements.
