Henry Charlton Bastian (1837–1915) was a Victorian physician whose early neurological writings on aphasia, paralysis, and proprioception helped to establish the nascent field of neurology as an accepted scientific discipline.
Henry Charlton joined Intuitive Surgical in November 2003 as Area Sales Manager, Mid-Atlantic U.S. He was promoted to Area Sales Director, Northeastern U.S. in January 2005; to Area Vice President, Sales, Northeast U.S. in January 2008; and to Vice President, Key Accounts in January 2010. In January 2015, Mr. Charlton was promoted to Senior Vice President of U.S. Sales. Prior to joining Intuitive Surgical, Mr. Charlton was the Vice President of Eastern U.S. Sales, and Director of EMEA for Tidal Software. Before joining Tidal Software, Mr. Charlton worked in sales and sales management for Securant Technologies (later acquired by RSA Securities in 2001), Legato Systems, and U.S. Surgical. Mr. Charlton received his B.A. in History and English from the University of Pittsburgh.
Henry Charlton and Caitlin Cormier of Superior, Colorado, were joined in marriage on May 30, 2015, in the presence of their closest family and friends on beautiful Isla Mujeres in Mexico. The evening ceremony on the beach was performed by their room-mate Thomas Beardsley and groomsmen included Henry's two brothers Ebbie and Sam Charlton. Caitlin's brother, Casey Cormier, provided the music.
Henry Charlton Bastian was born in Truro, Cornwall. He graduated in 1861 at the University College, London, where he worked most of his life. He was one of the first neurologists appointed to the National Hospital, Queen Square. There, he conducted original investigations and pursued wide interests both in medical and biological sciences. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1868. In addition to his reputation as a neurological diagnostician and intellectual, he became an advocate of the vexed doctrine of abiogenesis.
