Leonard Stevens grew up in the back streets of Boston. “We moved around so my father could find work. We went to Chicago and then back to Boston. I joined the Army in 1938 mostly because I was hungry. It wasn’t bad because I was making $21 a month and the work wasn’t bad. They put me in charge of the latrine because I could make the place sparkle.”
Leonard Ernest Stevens was born on February 13, 1927 to Ray and Henriette (Oudekerk) Stevens in Rose Creek. Leonard attended school in Cumberland, WI.
