Mirza Ghulam Ahmad married twice. His first wife was hispaternal cousin Hurmat Bibi. Later they separated and livedseparately for a long time. At the time of his second marriage,Hurmat Bibi gave him the permission to live with the second wifeand decided against a divorce.
While he was in Lahore at the home of Dr. Syed Muhammad Hussain(who was also his physician), Mirza Ghulam Ahmad fell ill from and excessiveweakness. Hedied in Lahore on 26 May 1908 and his last words were 'Allah, mybeloved Allah'. Hisbody was subsequently taken to Qadian and buried there.

Towards the end of 1907 and early 1908 Mirza Ghulam Ahmadclaimed to have received numerous revelations informing him of hisimminent death. In April 1908 he traveled to Lahore with his familyand companions. Here he gave many lectures. A banquet was arrangedfor dignitaries where Ghulam Ahmad, upon request, spoke for sometwo hours explaining his claims, teachings and speaking inrefutation of objections raised against his person, here hepreached reconciliation between Hindus and Muslims. He completedwriting his last work entitled “Message of Peace” a daybefore his death.
When the news of his claim reached India, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq,a disciple of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, was informed of it and wrote toPigott informing him of the claim of Ahmad and requesting moreinformation about his own claim. Pigott did not reply directly buta letter was received from his secretary along with twoadvertisements one carrying the title 'The Ark of Noah'.
