The more musicians I met that we got to work with, the more I realized how important our work was because these albums were people’s lives on wax. We’ve been gathering around storytellers in one form or another since the beginning of time and the stories behind that particular album continue to gain meaning for me. Three years out, and it is still one of my all-time favorites, so I am honored we got to work with him on it.
There were a lot of personal and professional growing pains that came with that process, and it is hard to prepare for some of those ahead of time. It is just something you just have to go through and learn from as quickly as you can while trying to keep your head above water!

You have to hand it to Nicholas Sparks. He keeps on writing the most hackneyed, by the number books imaginable and not only do they keep getting published, they also go on to sell by the truckload and receive lucrative movie adaptations starring Hollywood superstars, much to the dismay of the casual onlooker. The likes of The Notebook and Dear John have become synonymous with the ‘chick flick’ genre by following his melodramatic and predictable (some would say lazy) formula. The Best of Me is the latest in an ever growing line of on screen adaptations of Nicholas Sparks books. Can it offer something a bit different to those that have come before it?
Alice My First Lady! I played Amadi. I married two wives – Alice and Akunne. Alice was the first and for some reasons, I paid a terrible price for my choice of a second wife, Akunne. Alice beat the crap out of my rather fragile Akunne. I think a lot of people like that movie. I do too. Very hilarious! I have featured in over a hundred movies but every time I step out all I hear is ‘Amadi, Alice’s husband’. Or you see some women clapping their hands and cracking up at the sight of me. Ladies laugh me to stupor sometimes because they see me as the weakling of a man who made Alice their perfect symbol of defiant womanhood.
