''Montana,'' by David Kranes, is a short play with the potential to be longer. At the center is a woman (Lea Floden) who has escaped to the city from her provincial western background. Forced to have her car repaired in Two Dot, Mont., she finds herself remembering her youth. The plot is contrived, and the playwright seems undecided about the depth of his sympathy for his heroine, but the play does have its affecting moments. There are nicely matched performances by Janet Aspers and Spring Aspers as a mother and daughter, the roles they play in real life. LESS MAY BE MORE - WORKING ONE-ACTS 1987, Program B. We actually were working with Whiney Houston on her movie Sparkle, Spring Aspers, my partner at Sony, and myself. Whitney has a part in that film and performs an on-camera song and she also, just a few days ago, recorded the song for the end title. (chokes up) It’s really incredibly tragic to lose someone at such a young age who had such a huge impact.
