This pin links to a site of Yvonne Hutchinson's work. I chose this to represent the importance of knowing your students and their abilities, and then designing class activities that build upon existing skills to cultivate new ones. An important link between her work and our class is the need to emphasize and scaffold appropriate academic dialogue and respectful communication in the classroom.
Yvonne Hutchinson was the eighth of nine children born to Jamaican parents who migrated to Bradford in the 1950s. After a troubled youth, including time spent in care, she turned her life around after becoming a Christian, and became a campaigner on social issues including housing.
Given on Friday 1st May at the funeral of Yvonne Hutchinson at Huddersfield Christian Fellowship, Cathedral House, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
