Uzak is richly contemplative and languid filmmaking, in which Ceylan's camera observes with calm detachment two men who are struggling to cope with the loneliness and transience of modern urban living. Disillusioned with his work — "photography is finished", he declares — Mahmut has been shocked by the news that his ex-wife Nazan (Zuhal Gencer Erkaya) is emigrating to Canada with her new husband.

Istanbul's iDANS International Contemporary Dance and Performance Festival will be hosting two special projects by some of the world's most esteemed choreographers in its June program, the festival's organizers announced this week. The two productions make up the second leg of iDANS festival's 2013 edition, which the festival's organizer, Bimeras Cultural Foundation, has decided to split into different parts of the year due to a lack of proper venues in Istanbul that are capable of hosting such performances. The first of the two special performances, "Addio alla Fine" (Farewell to an End), is a site-specific project conceived by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, directors of ICKamsterdam International Choreographic Arts Center, for different port cities of the world. The Istanbul version of the performance has been created as an iDANS co-production, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary art collective and playwright Ozen Yula. The project also features actors Ayca Damgaci, Zuhal Gencer Erkaya, Firat Tanis, countertenor Nuri Harun Ates and journalist Bahar Cuhadar. The performance will take the audience on a boat trip full of surprises on June 15 and 16. On June 22 and 23, Flemish choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker returns to the iDANS stage with her seminal work "Rosas danst Rosas." A huge international success since its premiere in 1983, the piece had marked a shift in the history of dance. It has become a contemporary classic and in the 30 years since its creation, it has been studied over and over by new generations of dancers. In the Istanbul performances, De Keersmaeker herself may be on stage together with three dancers from the third generation of "Rosas danst Rosas" performers, iDANS announced in a press release issued Tuesday.
